Pet wellness examinations/vaccinations
At Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital we believe that preventative care is the foundation for a healthy, happy, long-lived pet. Pets age faster than people and most pets are mature by age two. At 7 years of age, many pets are entering their senior years. Because cats and dogs age so rapidly, major health changes can occur in a short period of time. Many diseases are treated if caught before irreversible changes have occurred. Therefore we recommend annual or twice annual physical examinations to help us diagnose, treat or prevent problems before they become life-threatening. During these examinations we will discuss and administer immunizations, internal and external parasite treatment and prevention, blood and urine tests and other measures to ensure prevention and early detection of disease.

Progressive Dental Care
Progressive Dental CareThe number one health problem diagnosed in 8 out of 10 cats and dogs over 4 years of age is periodontal disease. We provide an extensive dental care program. Our clients have become aware of the importance to have their pet’s teeth examined and cleaned on a regular basis.

Preventative dental care can add 2-4 years to the life of your pet. Optimum dental care truly is a fountain of youth for your pet.

Diagnostic laboratory testing
In order for diagnosis of your pet's health status, we utilize a variety of laboratory diagnostics ranging from in-house laboratory tests to referred tests.

We can perform many blood and urine tests right at our facility including complete blood count, blood chemistry, cortisol tests, basic thyroid test, parasite examinations (internal and external), and urinalysis.

This allows your pet to receive appropriate medical treatment in a timely manner. We use diagnostic laboratory tests not only to diagnose disease, but to also monitor many medical therapies such as animals taking anti-seizure medications or arthritis medications.

Diagnostic imaging
We utilize radiographs (x-rays) for diagnosis and monitoring of a variety of conditions not limited to orthopedic conditions. Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool used to examine the internal organs in a non-invasive manner. Ultrasound is crucial in the comprehensive examination of the heart, liver, kidneys, gallbladder, spleen, urinary bladder, intestines and other internal organs. We also use our ultrasound as a tool in early diagnosis of pregnancy and to monitor the fetus's health.

Surgery
SurgeryWe provide a wide range of surgical services at Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital varying from spay and neuter surgeries to orthopedic and laparoscopic procedures. Prior to surgery, each pet is examined to detect any existing medical conditions that may endanger your pet's health. Diagnostic tests may be recommended in order to get a more complete picture of your pet's health before administering anesthesia. We utilize a variety of pain control medications before, during and after surgery to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible. If you have questions or concerns regarding anesthesia or surgery for your pet, please talk to one of our staff members. During surgery we use state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to ensure the health and safety of your pet. Parameters which may be measured include blood pressure, blood oxygen concentration, temperature and ECG.

Rigid Endoscopy
Our rigid endoscope enables us to perform thorough examinations of the urinary tract and vagina of female dogs, the nasal passages and the airway system of birds. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique for viewing internal structures of the abdominal cavity which at allows accurate and definitive diagnostic and staging information (as for cancer) of liver, pancreatic, splenic and intestinal disease. The advantages of laparoscopic surgery over conventional open surgery include smaller incisions for surgery sites, decreased recovery time, reduced pain and less chance of infection. Surgery techniques which can be performed are ovariohysterectomy, prophylactic gastropexy, feeding tube placement and cryptorchid surgery.
